The incidence of malignant tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract is increasing. The carcinomas of this area, mostly squamous cell carcinomas, are often accompanied by cervical lymph node metastases. Not infrequently, the primary tumor causes no discomfort and its existence is inferred from the presence of metastases.
