Those collaborating on the key Czech encyclopedias included publicly active women engaged in the emancipation movement, some even active in political parties, most leading specialists in their fields, several of whom were the first to attain positions that would not previously have been possible. Predominant among the 20 women collaborating on the Otto's Encyclopedia were teachers and secondary school tutors.
